This week has predominantly been spent working on the key element of the signs: the Bible verse text. I started off doing the lettering by hand...which took over an hour...and so isn't really an ideal method when there are so many signs to make! With that in mind, I started looking into emulsion transfer. This seems to have worked quite well on the test pieces, and will hopefully allow the signs to keep that handwritten feel (without the perfectionist in me tearing her hair out when a line ends up being a bit too wibbly!).
I have also been seeking out the ribbon that will make a bow at the top of each sign. I'm hoping I have found the perfect colours to co-ordinate with the other pieces, although; when you've been staring at 50 million shelves of different ribbons for a while, it feels as though your eyes and your judgement start to go a little funny!

I am currently spending every spare minute (between changing nappies and watching my 6 month old son decorate the kitchen with baby puree) painting all the wooden shapes that will make up the first batch of signs. It's been amazing to feel a sense of productivity, however small!
My lovely partner Daniel has very kindly been helping me out with making holes, as I am too much of a wuss to use the drill myself. I don't usually hesitate to do 'boy stuff' like playing with tools, but for some reason I just have nightmares of drills suddenly jumping out of your hand and attacking your arms, legs, and all your furniture! Or at least ruining whatever you were trying to drill in the first place.
So yes, everything appears to be coming along nicely. Some things have come out better than I had hoped, and others not quite as well, but hopefully the end result will be something I am proud to stick up on here in the land of the internets.

Hello, and welcome to my site :) It's a bit bare at the moment, but hopefully early April will see the completion of Bread & Fishy Co.'s very first products.
I had lots of ideas for various projects lying dormant in the back of my mind for a long time, as I was always too busy doing essays, or lacking the confidence to see anything through to being anything more than a sketch in the back of some notebook somewhere. But here I am, seeing these designs through, in the hope that they will be the start of something. It definately helps to have a lot more time on my hands, as the arrival of baby Isaac has put the majority of my career plans on hold!
I started these sketches after finding that none of the major sites such as Amazon and Ebay were bringing up many (if any) results for Bible verse signs, and I was hoping to find one to put up in my own home. So rather than giving up, I thought I'd have a bash at designing my own.
Hopefully you will like them too, so check back soon! xxx
